who am I?
Rafael Medina is a photographer based in Berlin, Germany, and São Paulo, Brazil. Born in the northern zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he built his career based on experiences linked to urban culture, music, nightlife, and the social dynamics that permeate dissident bodies.
With a degree in Philosophy from UERJ and training in Visual Arts from EAV Parque Lage, his work documents the alternative music scene and underground nightlife, creating portraits that celebrate LGBTQIAPN+ identity and sexuality.
Rafael photographs the contexts of which he is a part, recording memories, affections, and relationships within club culture and contemporary queer life.
Since 2017, he has worked mainly with analog photography, exploring the format as its own language and all the experimental resources that accompany it. Thus, images emerge that dialogue with his emotional states.
