O MAIS PROFUNDO É A PELE
Envelhecer LGBT+

In my work I don't intend to present an example to be followed of how an LGBT+ person should face ageing, but rather to show bodies and think about another beauty: that of wrinkles, blemishes and "flaws". Of everything that makes us unique and that marks our histories and ways of life on our bodies, thus challenging the classic ideas of what it means to grow old. In this way, forces such as pleasure, desire and affective relationships of friendship appear as life-giving potentials for rethinking recurring issues for those who grow old: finitude, loneliness and erasure. The richness of the diversity of experiences opens up the possibility of inventing new, unique, powerful and beautiful models of life.
"The deepest is the skin: LGBT60+" is a visual research project which comprises of series of photographs, short-documentary and a podcast.
The project was based on an intimate question I've asked myself since I "came out of the closet". What will it be like to grow old being gay? In a broader context, what is it like to grow old being LGBT+? These questions must be considered taking into account that our community was violently repressed by the Brazilian Dictatorship in the 70s and severely affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic during the 80s and 90s. In addition to experiences deeply marked by violence that generate sad data such as the short life expectancy of trans and black LGBT+ bodies.
